Updating Your Code

Supplementation or Updating. MCC can update any Code. We can match page formats, styles and provide more comprehensive services than you have currently. MCC’s focus on quality editorial services coupled with technological advancements, pushes us to the front in quality and timing of supplementation services.

Editorial Work. MCC provides you with a Supplement editorial team. This team consists of a legal editor, proofreader and indexer. They review the legislation to determine proper placement within the Code. MCC will adhere to the structure and style contained in the ordinance unless changes are required to ensure consistency in the Code. The team will also update the Table of Contents, catch lines, reference tables and index. Additionally, an instruction sheet will be created to advise how to insert and remove pages. A Checklist of Up-To-Date pages will be created to indicate the most recent source from which each page in the Code is derived. Editorial notes will be appended to sections that require additional explanation. A separate Supplement will be created for any pamphlets derived from the Code.

Printed Supplements. Amendments to the printed Code occur in the form of Printed Supplement pages that are issued as replacement pages. Printed Supplements include updated Table of Contents, Code Comparative Table, index and text pages.

Electronic Supplementation. MCC can provide the Supplements electronically on a schedule designed to meet your needs, e.g. monthly or bimonthly. You may choose to have hard copy Supplements printed less frequently. This allows for updating the Code without having to insert all of the printed Supplement pages each time you update. It also provides for a faster update than the printed version.

Primary benefits of receiving Electronic Updates is that government employees who are on your network will have access to more accurate information when making decisions. Additionally, the internet version of the Code can receive Electronic Updates, which means your citizenry will also have access to this timely information. Lastly, depending upon the frequency of your updating schedule there may be some cost savings because the cost of frequent printing is being avoided.

Schedule. Amendments are provided on a schedule designed to meet the needs of the Client. The schedule can be weekly, biweekly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, tri-annual, semi-annual, annual or upon authorization. Electronic Updates can occur on a more frequent schedule than Printed Supplements.

Additional Provisions. MCC can add additional provisions (e.g. charter, zoning, land development regulations) into the Code through the Supplement service. They will be included in a Supplement or as a separate project and appropriate updates will be made to the Code and tables. Additional divider tabs or binders will be provided as necessary. MCC will advise of all options and applicable costs.

Delivery. MCC can a delivery schedule based on your needs and can even provide printed supplements within 2-4 weeks. Options are available for distribution of the supplements to you and also to outside subscribers.

Distribution. MCC can provide distribution services for the Codes and Supplement. MCC can print and sell direct to the outside subscribers. This can allow the City to reduce the number of printed copies received and potentially reduce the costs to the City. MCC would be responsible for the distribution at no cost to the City.

Electronic Media. Once the project is completed MCC can provide the Code in electronic media. The data can be furnished on disks, CD-ROM, or via the Internet or modem, formatted for use in Word, WordPerfect, HTML, PDF or ASCII. It may be integrated with Folio BoundVIEWS information retrieval software program. Folio BoundVIEWS instantly locates in the document references to a word, phrase, or combination thereof. The software also affords easy “exportation” of language to your word processing software for drafting and amendatory purposes. MCC provides the software for use with Windows.

New Ordinances on the Web (N.O.W.). MCC can post your ordinances to the web between supplements so that anyone searching your Code will find the most current legislation. Once ordinances posted through the N.O.W. service are included in a supplement to the Code, they will be removed from the web. If you would like ordinances incorporated into the electronic version of the Code more often than your printed Code is updated, please consider our Electronic Supplementation Service.

Internet Connection. Should you desire to place the Code on the Internet, it may be included in our Online Library on MCC’s home page (http://www.municode.com). This home page contains a growing collection of over 1700 Codes of Ordinances, and is available to anyone with Internet access.
